Michael Löwy is a French-Brazilian Marxist sociologist and philosopher. He is emeritus research director in social sciences at the French National Center of Scientific Research and lectures at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris, France. He is the author of books on Karl Marx, Che Guevara, Liberation Theology, György Lukács, Walter Benjamin, Lucien Goldmann and Franz Kafka.

Eleni Varikas is a University Lecturer in Political Science at Universite Paris 8. Her research topics include gender and modern political theory, difference plurality exclusion in universalistic legitimation systems, and hierarchical categorization. She serves on the editorial boards of Powers. French Review of Constitutional and Political Studies; Gender and History; Political Reasons; and Les Cahiers du Genre.
